  • MECANEX takes part in the project SwissCube

MECANEX will bring its technical expertise to the development, the manufacture and the tests of qualification of the SwissCube satellite.

The objective of SwissCube, after obviously all the educational aspect, is to make optical measurements of an atmospheric phenomenon which names the "NightGlow", measurements which would cover space in latitude and longitude. NighGlow is a phenomenon of photoluminescence at the time of the recombination of Oxygen and Hydrogen in a zone from 80 to 110 km of altitude.

The photographs above show the phenomenon "NightGlow".

The long experiment in the microtechnic design and the realization of products for the space makes it possible MECANEX to be mentor for the students and the laboratories taking part in this project.

The LMTS (Laboratory of the Microsystems for Space Technologies) and Space Center of EPFL (Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne) began the development from a small satellite which will be launched in 2008. The platform will be of standard format "CubeSat" in order to minimize the cost of launching and to be able to collaborate with other universities which develop their own CubeSat.

The development of this satellite is distributed between several laboratories in order to share their competences. Currently, 10 laboratories of EPFL, 3 of the universityof Neuchâtel and 3 of the High Schools of St Imier, Sion and Yverdon participate.  SwissCube will be developed and built by students in partnership with active industries in the space field like MECANEX.
